For ethical and flexible travel in the Prestatyn area, try the innovative Fflecsi bus service. These battery-powered buses are completely demand-led. Just download the Fflecsi app or call 0300 234 0300 to book a journey.

Accessibility for all

We want everyone, whatever their ability or disability, to be able to enjoy Rhyl’s magnificent promenade and beaches. The ambitious new flood defence works will create better beach access with a higher and wider promenade and a ramp to the sand on the western section.

Wheelchair users can even hire a specially adapted sand-friendly wheelchair at PKS Watersports next to the Kite Surf Café. They’re just one of many venues in and around the seafront where accessibility for all is at the top of the agenda.

Here are just a few examples:

At SC2 there are two specialist disability changing rooms along with 17 changing cubicles suitable for those who need extra space or want to change as a family. At the waterpark there are steps for entering or exiting the deeper part of the pool with a pool hoist available on request and ramped access to the outside Splash Pad. SC2 holds regular autism-friendly sessions with reduced background noise, limited tannoy announcements and reduced numbers in the pool.

There are accessible toilets at all levels at the Pavilion Theatre and its 1891 bar/restaurant – with space for up to eight wheelchair users in the theatre stalls and a loop hearing system for those with hearing impairment.

Vue Cinema Rhyl has wheelchair access throughout the venue and in all screens. Entrance is through an automatic door and the foyer and screens are all on one floor. There’s step-free access to the wheelchair spaces and an accessible toilet off the main foyer. All counters have hearing loops. Vue Rhyl shows subtitled films every week and offers audio description on selected films – some screens come with infrared technology to provide hearing assistance. In their regular autism-friendly screenings the lights are left low, sound is turned down and trailers and adverts aren’t played.

Rhyl Miniature Railway has adapted one of its carriages to enable visitors in wheelchairs to enjoy a train ride – with a fold-down ramp to the platform. Its Central Station, including a museum with touch screen display, complies with all the latest accessibility standards. The building is fitted with induction loops and an amplifier at the ticket counter with an accessible WC.
