Open Doors Weekend September 7-8

Denbighshire opens it doors to two historical buildings as part of Cadw Open Doors on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September, 10am-4pm

The first is Plas Uchaf near Corwen. A substantial hall-house which was built in about 1400 and is situated on the side of a low hill in the Dee valley, an area filled with scenery, wildlife and history. Few houses of this age survive in Wales and the quality of work at Plas Uchaf is exceptional. Explore the building and find out more about its history and restoration. Plas Uchaf sits on the side of a low hill in the Dee valley, near Corwen in the heart of the North Wales countryside. It is within easy reach of Snowdonia. Nearby Rhug farm shop offers a many high quality local, Welsh and organic products. For more information visit the website.

This house will be open on the same weekend as Dolbelydr approximately 40 minutes’ drive away in Trefnant. Dolbelydr, a fine example of a 16th-century gentry house, has good claim to be the birthplace of modern Welsh – it was here that Henry Salesbury wrote his Grammatica Britannica, the first Welsh grammar.
