Llangollen gets an upgrade with the Four Great Highways project

The Four Great Highways project within the Clwyd South Levelling Up Fund programme aims to promote and enhance the four great highways of Llangollen, by enhancing access and visibility to, and interpretation of the Llangollen Canal and World Heritage Site, the former Ruabon to Barmouth railway line, the River Dee and Thomas Telford’s historic London to Holyhead Road.  A new ramp is being installed to improve access to the park from Mill Street, and within the park there will be an improved picnic area and a small nature play area for children. Up at the Wharf a new set of steps are being installed to improve access to the canal area.

Signage and wayfinding across town will be improved by installing new interpretation boards that will include heritage and historical information about the town.  The boards will also include something for children and art and photography from local people (for example a competition ran with Ysgol Dinas Brân for the Art department students to draw a picture for one of the boards near the bridge).  Bronze pavers will be installed near to the attractions showing a historical photo of the area and information about the attraction.  A breadcrumb wayfinding trail will also be installed through town to direct visitors to the attractions.

We are looking forward to seeing these new improvements completed by the end of August.
